Colour based book

I wanted to originally do a book of ten of the same copper etched print exploring oil based ink and mixing it to create a colour book for me to reference in future but I didn't not have time to do that so instead I decided to explore colour in a different way.

I ended up organising my alcohol markers by value using black and white reference photos of my set. I wanted a tool to help me find colours that are different values rather than different hues.

I then stitched the book with the paper folder vertically as the swatches didn't need to be big but there were a lot of then and horizontally folding the paper to the A5 size seemed to be too spacious and not as easy to 'read' this type of information. I used a guide to the marionette stitch which was a stitch I had wanted to explore due to the intricacies. It took a lot of fiddling to figure it out and get it to weave correctly.

Once the book was stitched I used a template I made and a protective piece of plastic to layout the swatches and labels and prevent bleed through to the back of each page.

I then went through and filled the book without the intention to finish it as I want to leave blank pages for future mediums I want to try out. I also think this would be a great project for a series as I could then explore other aspects of colour with the same mediums.
