Assignment 3 : Book Sculpture

We did our critique for our book sculptures which went well. My sculpture ended up not needing an armature or any support within the paper. It was made of paper, a book, elmers glue, and two paperclips. Sculpting, especially out of paper, was not something I had done before but I found it more approachable than I initially thought, and I quite enjoyed making the little girl and looking through books to find the words I wanted included within her as well as visible to the viewer. It was cathartic to make her but stressful to show to the class. Infertility isn't a topic many people talk about and is something that makes people quite uncomfortable but I don't plan on avoiding the subject so I'm glad I was able to make a sculpture that was pretty as well as deeply meaningful to me. I would be more than happy to put her on my bookshelf.
